Painting & Drawing

PAINTING: Whereas artists of the past used watercolors purely as a sketching medium, I use this medium for my finished works. The technological improvements in pigments have given them lasting properties unheard of years ago. Sometimes working wet into wet and at other times wet into dry, I find watercolor often has a life of it’s own beyond what I intended. I enjoy the unpredictability of this medium. Happy accidents often occur which lend vitality to the work. My subject matter consists of florals, naturescapes, still lifes, and mandalas as well as various combinations of these. My artworks have been exhibited internationally, winning several awards in the United States, and have been purchased by corporate and private collectors alike.

DRAWING: Although I use my soft pastels and colored pencils as a sketching medium, people often mistake my framed drawings for paintings. Here again the development of greatly increased pigment longevity provides me with the option of presenting my drawings as finished works. The convenience and immediacy of these sketching materials appeals to me. The soft chalk pastels especially lend themselves to being worked directly with my hands and resonate with echoes of finger painting in my childhood. I have demonstrated my pastel work throughout North America and Japan and my drawings are a part of American corporate collections and international private collections.

  • Red Suede Shoes
  • Queen's Camelias
I found these excellent blooms while visiting the Queen of Belgium's Royal Greenhouses, hence the title, Queen's Camellias. This drawing was rendered in soft pastel on a deep olive green paper. It is finished with a white matt and gold metal frame. Soft pastel - image size: 20" x 26" - framed size: 28" x 34" - $500 (framed).
  • Haleakala Crater
During my visit to the island of Maui I traveled on horseback to the center of Haleakala Crater. It is matted in white and framed in a frosted copper finish metal frame. Soft pastel - image size: 19" x 25" - framed size: 26.5" x 33.5" - $600 (framed).
  • Fruit Still Life
